About the Owner

I haven't thoroughly researched the car prior to my purchasing it a few years ago, but I plan on doing that eventually. The purchase is kind of a sad story in a way. My brother who is a GTO connoisseur and has owned many of them in the past as well as a couple of Firebird Super Duties that crossed the stage at Barrett Jackson (unfortunately not while he owned them) found a '72 GTO for sale not far from where he lives in Cleveland, MO. He called me later to tell me about it and during the conversation he mentioned the seller also had a 1937 Pontiac Business Man's coupe and a 1937 Pontiac sedan parts car. I had never seen a '37 Pontiac to my knowledge and asked him to send me a photo. He sent a picture of the coupe that was covered in dust even though it had been stored inside for years. I could see enough to develop an interest in buying it if the price was right. I drove up from Springfield, MO to take a look at the car and made the owner an offer. She did not accept right away, but did so later. The sad part is her husband had owned the car for several years along with the other '37, the GTO my brother bought, along with a cherry Mercedes SL230. He was a businessman who loved cars and planned on spending his retirement years working on, and enjoying them. He built a state of the art garage in the country and stocked it with thousands of dollars of equipment to work on the cars. Then he retired. Then he died. He never even got a chance to unbox most of the equipment in the garage. His wife waited several years before deciding to move to another town and that's when the cars came up for sale. I sincerely hope that doesn't happen to me. The '37 now sits in a state of the art garage and man cave in the country along with my collection of nine motorcycles and a 2001 triple black Corvette six speed with only 13,000 miles on it. I've had it for a few years now and embarrassingly have not done much of anything with it. I got it running soon after rebuilding the carburetor and purchased new glass which I still haven't installed and had the interior dash and trim painted, but I still haven't driven it yet because the brake lines and cylinders need replaced. Each time I go in the garage and see the '37 I vow to get it ready to drive as soon as possible, but it hasn't happened yet. In the meantime it does a really good job of adding some great styling panache to the man cave. If I pass away before I get to drive it and you happen to purchase it from my grieving wife, please promise that you will finish the job and not wait around like the previous owner and yours truly did.
